Your plan, your benefits, and what a paid account actually gets you. Everything in this section also appears behind an (i) in your account, next to the thing it explains.

Your plan

What you are paying, what it gets you, and how to change it.

How it works

  • There is a free account and there are paid ones. The free account is genuinely usable; the paid ones add the benefits listed in the comparison.
  • Payment is monthly or yearly depending on the plan, taken automatically, and you can stop it yourself at any time without asking anybody.
  • Changing plan takes effect straight away and the amount is adjusted rather than charged twice.

What to do

  1. Read the comparison rather than the headline. The column you are on is marked.
  2. If you are not using it, pause rather than cancel. It keeps your account and your history, and takes no payment.

Pausing instead of cancelling

Stopping payment for a month or three without losing your account.

How it works

  • While a pause is on, no payment is taken. Nothing accrues and nothing is charged at the end to catch up — the months are simply not billed.
  • Every pause has an end date, so it cannot quietly become a cancellation. It restarts on its own on that date.
  • You can end a pause early whenever you want, and your account picks up where it was.
  • You keep your history, your saved places and your profile. What stops is the paid benefits and posting in the forums, which is the part that makes it fair on everybody still paying.

What to do

  1. Pick the number of months you actually want. The pause ends by itself, so there is nothing to remember.
  2. If you are done rather than taking a break, cancel instead. It is one click on the same page and we would rather you did that than paused forever.

Your joining pint

One pint at a participating pub, issued automatically when you join a paid plan.

How it works

  • It is issued to your account without you asking. You do not have to claim it or print anything.
  • It waits in your account until you use it. If no pub near you has signed up yet, it sits there rather than expiring.
  • At the bar you open it on your phone and show the code. The pub marks it used, and it cannot be used again.
  • It is one pint, once. The Founder plan gets the same pint earlier rather than an additional one.

What to do

  1. Check which pubs take it before you go, on the venue directory.
  2. Open it at the bar, not in the car park. The code is single-use and starts a short window once shown.

Your stuff

Everything you can add, list or vote on, gathered in one place.

How it works

  • Some of it is open to every account and some needs a paid plan. The locked ones are drawn differently rather than hidden, so you can see what you would get.
  • Your record collection, your playlists and your saved places are yours and are not shown to anybody unless you make them public.
  • Voting and scoring happen on the night, from your phone, in the pub.

What to do

  1. Start with saved places. It is what makes the local view useful.

The forums

Discussion, open to members only, and currently closed.

How it works

  • It is deliberately shut until we have met our obligations for user-generated content in full. That was a decision taken after reading the rules rather than after being told about them.
  • When it opens, reading is for members and posting needs a paid plan that is not paused. Posts are screened automatically and there is a report button on everything.
  • Being members-only is part of how we keep it safe, not a way to sell memberships.

The smaller things: the weekly newsletter, the record features and the daily quiz.

How it works

  • The newsletter comes out weekly and every part of the site gets a paragraph. Past issues are on the site and you do not need an account to read them.
  • The daily quiz is one round a day. It keeps your attempts so you can see how you are doing.
  • None of this costs extra and none of it is required.

Account settings

Your email, your password, what we are allowed to send you, and how to leave.

How it works

  • Marketing email is separate from the email we have to send you about your account. Turning marketing off does not stop a receipt or a password reset.
  • Every marketing email carries a working unsubscribe link, and using it is the same as turning it off here.
  • Deleting your account removes your profile and your content. Records we have to keep for accounting reasons are kept and nothing else is.

What to do

  1. Keep the email address current. It is how a password reset reaches you and how a pub confirms a collection.

The musician add-on

An addition to the plan you already pay for, rather than a second subscription.

How it works

  • It is added to your existing subscription at the difference in price, not charged again in full.
  • It is for people who make the records as well as play them. Having a page as an act is free either way and does not need this.
  • It can be removed again and the subscription goes back to what it was.
